Yes, the common person can go and collect waste oil from their local diner and use it as fuel for a diesel engine. Before usage, the oil has to be tested to make sure it's "good". Large particles must be filtered out, and titrations are performed to assure that the used oil isn't too "dirty". If the above tests are positive, the oil can either be used straight in a converted engine, or transesterified into biodiesel for use in a regular diesel engine. Using WVO is particularly attractive because oil that would otherwise be waste is recycled. Restaurants are happy because they don't have to pay a waste disposal fee, and the oil can get a second use -- truly Found Energy. |
